Announcement:

Walden is called the "Moose Viewing Capital of Colorado" because it was here that two dozen Shiras moose were introduced into Colorado three decades ago. Now, every moose you see in Colorado is related to the herd in Jackson County, either because the moose here migrated to other counties, or were transplanted to other areas. There are an estimated 700 moose now inhabiting this county, and you are likely to see them in the willows along our wild streams and rivers.

We like to call Jackson County "One Million Acres of Things to Do." If you are looking for moose, you might also spot elk, antelope, big horn sheep, deer, river otters, bear, coyotes, buffalo, a mountain lion, or one of more than 150 species of birds that live here year-round or migrate here for the summer, including two species of eagle.

Activities across these one million acres include hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, boating, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, downhill skiing, climbing, snowmobiling, off-road motor sports, ice skating, rafting, or just plain sight-seeing. Jackson County is home to the second largest natural lake in Colorado, the largest state park in Colorado, the second largest sand dunes complex in the state, two gold-medal fishing areas, the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge, a buffalo ranch, one of the ten-best snowmobiling areas in North America, and access to five Moosedesignated Wilderness Areas.

Walden is the county seat and only incorporated town, and is situated in the center of this large open valley often called North Park, Colorado, an area with stunning views in virtually every direction. North Park's boundaries are made up of the Independence Mountain complex to the north, the Medicine Bow Range to the east, The Rabbit Ears Range to the south and the Park Range to the west.

Five motels, seven restaurants and coffee shops, a hardware store, grocery, mechanics shop, bowling alley, fishing guide service, the famous Pioneer Museum, , and other merchants are waiting to serve you. Events during the year include a rodeo, a great barbecue and stock show, an ice golf tournament, two fishing tournaments, snowmobile racing, and who knows what else we might try.

We're open all year-round. Can't wait to see you!
